Domitius Corbulo, Proconsul,<lb n="2"/>den Magistraten, Rat und Volk von Kos<lb n="3"/>Gruß!<lb n="4"/>Ich habe es oft schon für nützlich befunden,<lb n="5"/>Euch darauf hinzuweisen, alles, was mir<lb n="6"/>besonders wert scheint, einem<lb n="7"/>kaiserlichen Urteil für wert gehalten zu werden,<lb n="8"/>zuerst den Verantwortlichen der Provinzen<lb n="9"/>vorzulegen, so wie es durch Instruktionen<lb n="10"/>geregelt ist. Jetzt aber hat aufgrund Eures Volksbeschlusses<lb n="11"/>der [Anwalt der Stadt] eine Appellation (direkt) an den Kaiser<lb n="12"/>angemeldet, und ich bin überzeugt, dass er dies<lb n="13"/>aus Böswilligkeit getan hat. Es ist nämlich<lb n="14"/>nötig, wenn an den Kaiser<lb n="15"/>die Apellation geschieht, dass vorher ich<lb n="16"/>den Fall prüfe; wenn aber an mich, dass<lb n="17"/>ich für den gegenwärtigen Fall die angemessene<lb n="18"/>Kaution erhalte von zweitausend fünfhundert<lb n="19"/>Denaren gemäß dem von mir erlassenen<lb n="20"/>Edikt wegen grundloser Appellation.<lb n="21"/>Wenn aber demgemäß nicht verfahren wird,<lb n="22"/>- - -<lb n="23"/>eure - - -<lb n="24"/>Lebt wohl.</ab></div><div type="translation" xml:lang="EN" resp="Kent Rigsby"><ab xmlns="http://www.tei-c.org/ns/1.0"><lb n="1"/>Gnaius Domitius Corbulo, proconsul,<lb n="2"/>to the archons council people of the Koans,<lb n="3"/>greetings.<lb n="4"/>I have often judged it useful<lb n="5"/>to set out for you that what to me<lb n="6"/>can be reckoned to be most worthy<lb n="7"/>of a divine decision by the emperor,<lb n="8"/>first is to be submitted to those in charge<lb n="9"/>of the provinces, as has been established<lb n="10"/>by orders. But now on the grounds of your decree<lb n="11"/>- - - has filed an appeal to<lb n="12"/>the emperor, and I perceive that he<lb n="13"/>has done this abusively. It is necessary<lb n="14"/>then, if the appeal is to go<lb n="15"/>to the emperor, for me to first<lb n="16"/>investigate the reason.
